Why It's Important to Reset the Infiniti G37 Maintenance Light

Resetting the maintenance light on your Infiniti G37 is crucial for monitoring the engine’s oil condition and knowing when it’s time for an oil change. It’s also advised to keep a comprehensive record of every oil change and service performed on your Infiniti G37. Doing so not only guarantees top-notch maintenance of your vehicle but also provides documented evidence of regular care, which can be advantageous if you choose to sell the car in the future.

Infiniti G37 Oil Type and Quantity

The 2008-2015 Infiniti G37 3.7L 6 cylinder engine requires 5.13 Quarts of 5W-30 synthetic oil. (Regarding conventional or synthetic oil, whatever oil you have been using, you should continue to use)

How Often Should You Change the Oil on Your Infiniti G37?

It’s recommended to replace the oil in your Infiniti G37 every 3,000 miles. While some experts, service centers, and dealerships may propose lengthening the time between oil changes, sticking to the 3,000-mile guideline is vital. Consistently following this routine is key to preserving the engine performance of your Infiniti G37 and preventing a range of possible problems.

What to Do If the Infiniti G37 Service Reset Procedure Does Not Work?

If you encounter challenges while trying to reset the maintenance light on your Infiniti G37, attempt the process once more. First, completely turn off the ignition and the engine, then start the reset sequence from the beginning. Before beginning, make sure that the hood and all doors are firmly closed.

Why is the Service Maintenance Light Still On After An Oil Change?

After completing an oil change in your Infiniti G37, remember to reset the maintenance light; it won’t turn off by itself. Just changing the oil and filter won’t automatically switch off the maintenance light. If the maintenance required indicator remains lit post-oil change, it usually means the reset process was overlooked by the individual who performed the oil change.

General Infiniti G37 Maintenance Tips

Check Tire Pressure and Tire Tread

To locate the recommended tire pressure for your Infiniti G37, look for the white or yellow sticker on the door frame, visible upon opening the driver’s side door. Be sure to inflate the tires while they are cold to prevent overinflation. This involves either waiting three hours after the last use of the vehicle or inflating the tires before you begin driving. For evaluating tread wear on each tire, consider using the penny test or a tread depth gauge.

Rotate Your Tires

We recommend rotating the Infiniti G37 tires every other oil change, (if you are changing your oil at our recommended 3,000 mile interval) or every 6,000 miles.

Check the Coolant Level

Check the coolant level to ensure it’s within the proper range in the coolant reservoir, specifically above the minimum and below the maximum line. Employing a flashlight can enhance your view inside the coolant container. Since the coolant system is closed, a significant decrease in coolant level might suggest a leak. Conduct a pressure test on the system to detect any possible leaks.

Check the Brake Pads and Rotors

Ensure that the brake pads on the front and rear brakes of your Infiniti G37 have sufficient material left by checking their thickness. A brake pad gauge will provide an accurate measurement. Additionally, inspect the rotors for any indications of rust or unevenness. When your Infiniti G37 is elevated on a jack or lift, rotate each wheel manually (with the parking brake disengaged) to verify that they turn smoothly. If there’s resistance in a wheel’s rotation, it might indicate issues with the brake caliper or seized slider pins in the caliper.

Check Brake Fluid Reservoir

It’s essential to maintain a full brake fluid reservoir. If you observe a significantly low level of brake fluid in your Infiniti G37, it usually indicates a leak within the system. Inspect the brake calipers and lines for any evidence of leaks.

Check Washer Fluid Level

Refill your washer fluid reservoir. During winter, choose a washer fluid with antifreeze properties to avoid freezing in the container.

Check the Engine and Cabin Air Filters

Open the air filter compartment of your Infiniti G37 (there are two on the G37) and take out the air filters. If they look dirty, clean them with a vacuum, compressed air, or by shaking out the dirt and debris. If the filters are overly dirty, they should be replaced. However, if they’re clean, you can put them back in. Don’t forget to inspect the cabin air filter located behind the glove box, which purifies the car’s interior air. Check this filter and replace it if it appears dirty or if it hasn’t been changed before.

Check the Power Steering Fluid

Make sure the power steering fluid reservoir in your Infiniti G37 is topped up to the full line. A decreased fluid level could indicate a leak. In such cases, refill the fluid and examine the power steering lines for signs of leaking.

Benefits of Regular Oil Changes

Drawing from my decade-long experience as an automotive technician in various dealerships and independent workshops—a position I still hold—I’ve observed that vehicles skipping regular maintenance often encounter more frequent and serious problems. While some automakers suggest oil change intervals ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 miles, my personal recommendation for the Infiniti G37, is to perform oil changes every 3,000 miles, irrespective of Infiniti’s guidelines. This approach is vital for keeping the vehicle in optimal condition and prolonging its engine’s lifespan. Consistent oil changes reduce engine wear and can improve fuel efficiency by as much as 2%. They also enable the engine to operate more cleanly, which is essential to avoid the buildup of harmful deposits that can reduce an engine’s life.
