Why It's Important to Reset the Lexus RX 350 Oil Service Interval Light
Resetting the oil maintenance light on your Lexus RX350 is important. It helps you know when to change your oil next and check your engine oil’s condition. This reset also makes it easier to plan your next service appointment.
KEEP A PERSONAL RECORD OF ALL VEHICLE MAINTENANCE
Keeping a detailed log of all oil changes and maintenance for your Lexus RX350 is helpful. It ensures your car gets the best care and creates a full history of its maintenance. This record can be useful if you decide to sell the car later.
Lexus RX 350 Oil Type and Quantity
The 2015-2023 Lexus RX350 3.5L 6 cylinder engine requires 5.6 quarts or 0W-20 synthetic oil.
Synthetic or Conventional Oil?
Many Lexus RX350 owners ask, “Do I need to use synthetic oil in my car?” My recommendation is this:
It’s important to consistently use the same type of engine oil. If you’ve been using synthetic oil in your Lexus RX350, it’s best to keep using it. However, if you’ve been using regular oil or a mix of synthetic and conventional oil, stick with that. The key is not to switch between different types of oil.
TIP: Bring your own oil to your local shop to save money on oil mark-ups.
How Often Should You Change the Oil on Your Lexus RX 350?
It’s recommended to change your Lexus RX350’s oil every 3,000 miles. Some experts and Lexus might suggest longer intervals, but sticking to 3,000 miles is important. Regular oil changes keep your engine in top shape and prevent problems. They also keep the engine running well and allow for a thorough check-up at each service. This helps find and fix small problems before they get bigger.
What to Do If the Lexus RX Oil Service Interval Reset Procedure Does Not Work?
If you’re having trouble resetting the maintenance light on your Lexus RX350, try starting the process over. First, turn off the ignition with the start button, then turn it on and off again. After that, attempt the reset procedure once more. Make sure the hood and all doors are closed properly before you proceed.
Why is the Lexus RX 350 Maintenance Required Still On After An Oil Change?
Just changing the oil and oil filter in your Lexus RX350 won’t automatically reset the maintenance light. If the Lexus maintenance light stays on after an oil change, it usually means the reset wasn’t done, probably because it was overlooked.
Lexus RX350 Maintenance Tips
Check Tire Pressure and Tire Tread
You can find the recommended tire pressure for your Lexus RX350 on a white sticker on the driver’s side door panel when you open the door. Inflate your tires when they’re cold. This means waiting three hours after driving or before you start driving to prevent overinflation. To check tire tread, use the penny test or a tread depth gauge.
Rotate Your Tires
We advise rotating the tires of your Lexus RX350 with every other oil change, assuming you’re following our suggested 3,000-mile oil change interval, or otherwise every 6,000 miles.
TIP: If your local shop or dealership recommends tires on your Lexus RX 350, check your tire tread yourself with a tire tread depth gauge!
Check the Coolant Level
Make sure the coolant level in the reservoir is between the minimum and maximum marks. A flashlight can help you see the level better. If the coolant is much lower than it should be, there might be a leak since the system is sealed. Doing a pressure test can help you find any coolant leaks.
Check the Brake Pads and Rotors
Look at the brake pads on the front and rear brakes of your Lexus RX350 to make sure they’re thick enough. You can use a brake pad gauge for an exact measurement. Also, check the brake rotors for rust, hot spots, or damage. If your Lexus RX350 is up on a jack or lift, spin each wheel by hand (with the parking brake off) to see if they move easily. If a wheel is hard to turn, there might be an issue with the brake caliper or stuck slider pins in the caliper.
Check Brake Fluid Reservoir
It’s important to make sure the brake fluid reservoir in your Lexus RX350 is full. A low brake fluid level usually means there’s a leak or the brake pads are very worn. If this happens, fill up the brake fluid, pump the brake pedal a few times, and then check the brake calipers and lines for leaks.
Check Washer Fluid Level
Fill up your washer fluid reservoir. During cold seasons, use a washer fluid with antifreeze to stop it from freezing.
Check the Engine and Cabin Air Filters
Open your Lexus RX350’s air filter box and take out the air filter. Clean it with compressed air, a vacuum, or by shaking off the dust and leaves if it’s dirty. Replace it if it’s really dirty, or put it back if it’s still fairly clean. Don’t forget to check the cabin air filter behind the glove box too. Change this filter if it’s dirty or old.
Check Power Steering Fluid
Make sure the power steering fluid in your Lexus RX350 is filled to the ‘full’ mark on the reservoir. If the fluid is lower than it should be, there might be a leak in the system. If you find a low level, add more fluid and then check the power steering rack and hoses for any leaks.
Benefits of Regular Oil Changes
In my ten years as a car technician at dealerships and independent shops, I’ve seen that cars not serviced regularly often have more and bigger problems. Even though some car makers recommend oil changes every 5,000 to 25,000 miles, I believe in changing the oil every 3,000 miles for the Lexus RX350, no matter what Lexus recommends. This keeps the car running well and helps it last longer. Regular oil changes reduce engine wear and can improve fuel efficiency by up to 2%. Oil changes keep the engine clean and stop harmful soot build-ups that can shorten the engine’s life.
