Steps to Reset the Jeep Wrangler Service Interval Light
Turn the engine ON or put the ignition into the RUN position.
Step on the gas pedal 3 times in a row quickly.
Turn the ignition or engine off, and then back on again.
If done successfully the service interval/maintenance light will be reset.
The Jeep 2006-2024 Wrangler maintenance reminder should only be reset after changing the oil and oil filter on the car.
Why It's Important to Reset the Jeep Wrangler Maintenance Light
Resetting the maintenance indicator on your Jeep Wrangler is essential to monitor oil change intervals and assess the engine’s current oil status. Additionally, it’s recommended and useful to maintain a log of each oil change and service conducted on your Wrangler.
Jeep Wrangler Oil Type and Quantity
The 2006-2024 Jeep Wrangler 3.6L V6 needs 6 quarts of 5W-20 Synthetic oil. The 2.0L turbo engine requires 5 quarts of 5W-30 Synthetic oil. The 4.0L engine requires 6 quarts of 5W-30 synthetic oil.
How Often Should You Change the Oil on Your Jeep Wrangler?
We advise you to change the oil in your 2006-2024 Jeep Wrangler every 3,000 miles. Although some service centers and dealerships might suggest prolonging the time between oil changes, adhering to a consistent 3,000-mile oil change schedule is crucial. Regular oil changes contribute significantly to maintaining your engine’s optimal performance and help in averting various potential issues with your Jeep.
What to Do If the Service Reset Procedure Does Not Work?
Should your initial effort to reset the service interval on the Jeep Wrangler prove unsuccessful, attempt it once more. Turn off both the ignition and engine, take the key out, and then commence the reset procedure from scratch. Ensure that the hood and all doors are securely closed before proceeding.
Why is the Service Maintenance Light Still On After An Oil Change?
Once you’ve finished changing the oil in the Jeep Wrangler, it’s necessary to manually reset the service intervals and maintenance lights. Just replacing the oil and oil filter doesn’t automatically deactivate the maintenance light. If this light stays on after changing the oil, it suggests that the technician responsible for the oil change did not reset the light.
General Jeep Wrangler Maintenance Tips
Check Tire Pressure and Tire Tread
Find the suggested tire pressure for your Jeep Wrangler by opening the driver’s side door and checking the white/yellow sticker. To avoid overinflation, fill the tires when they are cool. This means waiting 3 hours after last driving or before driving at all. To assess the tread wear on each tire, you can either use the penny test or a tread depth gauge.
Rotate Your Tires
We recommend rotating your tires every other oil change, (if you are changing your oil at our recommended 3,000 mile interval) or every 6,000 miles.
Check the Coolant Level
Inspect the coolant level visually to confirm it falls within the appropriate range in the coolant reservoir- above the low indicator and beneath the full mark. Employing a flashlight might aid in better visibility inside the coolant bottle. Since the coolant system is sealed, noticeably low coolant levels indicate a possible leak in the system. To find a coolant leak, pressure test the system.
Check the Brake Pads and Rotors
Employ a flashlight to examine the thickness of both the front and rear brake pads, ensuring there is ample pad left. Inspect the rotors for rust and other irregularities. When your car is raised off the ground or on a lift, manually spin the wheel to verify it rotates smoothly. A wheel that does not spin freely could suggest a malfunctioning brake caliper or stuck slider pins.
Check Brake Fluid Reservoir
Brake fluid levels should be kept full. A significantly low level in your brake fluid reservoir typically indicates a leak in the system.
Check Washer Fluid Level
Refill your washer fluid bottle. During the winter, it’s advisable to use washer fluid that contains antifreeze properties so that the liquid doesn’t freeze in the bottle.
Check the Engine and Cabin Air Filters
Unlock the air filter box and remove the air filter. If it appears dirty, either vacuum it clean or shake out any debris and leaves, or replace it with a new one. If it’s clean, just reinstall it in the filter box. Also, the Jeep Wrangler has a cabin air filter behind the glove box which filters the air inside the vehicle’s cabin. Examine this filter and replace it if it’s dirty or has never been changed before.
Benefits of Regular Oil Changes
In my decade of work as an automotive technician, I’ve noted that vehicles with infrequent maintenance often encounter more issues, both in frequency and severity. Despite some car makers advising oil changes at intervals of 5,000 to 20,000 miles, I firmly recommend an oil change every 3,000 miles, irrespective of Jeep’s own recommendations. This practice is especially crucial for the 2006-2024 Jeep Wrangler to sustain its performance and prolong its service life. Regular oil changes minimize friction between engine parts, thereby boosting efficiency and potentially enhancing fuel economy by up to 2%.It also ensures a cleaner engine operation, which aids in preventing the accumulation of damaging deposits that can shorten engine life.
