Why It's Important to Reset the Lexus IS300 Maintenance Light
Resetting the maintenance reminder and oil indicator on your Lexus IS300 is essential to keep track of when oil changes are due and to evaluate the engine’s oil condition, as well as the mileage until the next service appointment. It’s also advisable to maintain a personal record for each oil change and service by collecting all relevant service documents – do this by storing them in a dedicated folder or something similar. This method not only guarantees the best upkeep of your Lexus but also acts as evidence of regular maintenance, which is advantageous if you plan to sell the vehicle in the future.
Lexus IS300 Oil Type and Quantity
The 2013-2023 Lexus IS300 requires 6.8 Quarts of 0W-20 Synthetic oil.
How Often Should You Change the Oil on Your Lexus IS300?
Changing the oil in your Lexus IS300 every 3,000 miles is recommended. While certain experts, service centers, and dealerships may recommend longer periods between oil changes, it’s important to stick to a 3,000-mile interval. Consistently following this routine is key to preserving the engine’s performance in your Lexus IS300 and preventing a range of possible problems.
What to Do If the Lexus Service Reset Procedure Does Not Work?
If you encounter challenges while trying to reset the scheduled maintenance and oil light reminders on your Lexus IS300, attempt the procedure once more. Turn off both the ignition and the engine, and then begin the reset process again. Make sure that the hood and all doors are firmly shut before starting the procedure.
Why is the Lexus Service Maintenance Light Still On After An Oil Change?
After completing an oil change in your Lexus IS300, it’s important to reset the service intervals and maintenance alerts. Simply replacing the oil and filter won’t automatically turn off the maintenance indicator. If the service reminder on your Lexus remains active post-oil change, this usually suggests that the oil change process was concluded without resetting the indicator.
General Lexus IS300 Maintenance Tips
Check Tire Pressure and Tire Tread
Locate the recommended tire pressure for your Lexus IS300 by examining the white or yellow sticker on the door panel, which becomes visible upon opening the driver’s side door. Ensure to inflate the tires when they are cold to prevent overinflation. This involves either waiting three hours after the last time the vehicle was driven or inflating the tires prior to driving. To evaluate the wear on each tire’s tread, employ either the penny test or a tread depth gauge.
Rotate Your Tires
We recommend rotating the Lexus IS300 tires every other oil change, (if you are changing your oil at our recommended 3,000 mile interval) or every 6,000 miles.
Check the Coolant Level
Check the coolant level to ensure it is within the correct range in the coolant reservoir, specifically above the minimum line and below the maximum line. Utilizing a flashlight can assist in better viewing the inside of the coolant container. Since the coolant system is a closed system, a significantly low coolant level could suggest a leak. Conduct a pressure test on the system to detect any possible leaks.
Check the Brake Pads and Rotors
Inspect the brake pads on both the front and rear brakes of your Lexus IS300 to verify they have adequate pad material remaining. Employ a brake pad measurement tool for an accurate brake pad thickness assessment. Additionally, inspect the rotors for any indications of rust or uneven wear. When your Lexus IS300 is elevated on a jack or lift, rotate each wheel by hand (with the parking brake disengaged) to check that they turn smoothly. Resistance in any wheel’s rotation may indicate an issue with the brake caliper or seized slider pins in the caliper.
Check Brake Fluid Reservoir
It’s essential to maintain a consistently full brake fluid reservoir. If the brake fluid level is significantly low, it often indicates a leak in the system. In such cases, fill the brake fluid reservoir and then check the brake calipers and lines for any evidence of leaks.
Check Washer Fluid Level
Refill your washer fluid reservoir. During winter, choose a washer fluid with antifreeze properties to avoid freezing inside the container.
Check the Engine and Cabin Air Filters
Open the air filter box in your Lexus IS300 and take out the air filter. If it seems dirty, clean it using a vacuum, compressed air, or by shaking out the dirt and debris. If it’s too dirty, replace it with a new one. If it’s still clean, just put it back in. Also, there’s a cabin air filter located behind the glove box, responsible for purifying the air within the cabin. Examine this filter and replace it if it’s dirty or hasn’t been changed before.
Check the Power Steering Fluid
Ensure the power steering fluid reservoir in your Lexus IS300 is filled to the full mark. A low fluid level might suggest a leak, so if it’s not full, add more fluid and inspect the power steering lines for any signs of leaking.
Benefits of Regular Oil Changes on the Lexus IS300
Having worked as an automotive technician for ten years in both dealership and independent garage settings, I’ve observed that cars that overlook or delay routine maintenance tend to encounter more frequent and severe problems. While some automakers suggest oil change intervals ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 miles, based on my experience, I recommend changing the oil of a Lexus IS300 every 3,000 miles, irrespective of Lexus’s own guidelines. This approach is crucial for preserving the car’s optimal performance and longevity. Regular oil changes can minimize engine wear and may improve fuel efficiency by as much as 2%. Additionally, it ensures the engine operates more cleanly, which is crucial to prevent the build-up of harmful deposits that could reduce the engine’s lifespan.
